Blog Social Networking

With technology evolving yearly, many corporations and individuals had to adapt to the uses of technology. People have the benefit of keeping in contact with friends and families, meet new people, feel connected with others by posting, writing statuses and/or comments and liking posts. Not only that but people are able to build an online relationship with others who live across the world. As for corporations, it is easier for them to advertise and share their products. For example, on Facebook, on the side there are products that pops up as “recommended for you” or “similar to your interests.”

According to the New York Times article “Antisocial Networking?,”  there are both pros and cons to the use of technology. The benefit of social networking is that we feel connected to others by sending text messages daily. For children who are more shy than others, it is easier for them to feel connected online and is a way to help them develop social skills. As for cons, many teenagers text and use social media more than face-to-face interaction. They use Facebook walls and Myspace bulletins as a way of communicating. Cyber-bullying and sexting is a dark side of online interactions. Children today are missing out on the experience of real life experiences, in person interactions and building in-person social skills.

In the article “Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting,” social networking is used for job recruiting. For instance, LinkedIn, it is a popular job hunting website. You can just search up keywords in the search bar and it will narrow down to perfect candidate you are looking for. Also LinkedIn keeps whatever you want private so others don’t have access seeing all of your information.

In my opinion, social networking is much easier than communicating in person. Although in person, there is more intimacy, chemistry being built, connectedness, and vibes. In the future, technology might take over our lives. We already depend on social networking and are on our phones/electronics most of the day. It is important to have person to person interactions than just being on social media.

  1. I agree. Despite how much technology might make our lives more convenience or how much it'll revolutionize communication, there is still a need for in person interactions and communications.

  2. That makes two people agree :D Definitely it is as you claimed more convenient and easier to use social networking tech as means of communication; but it is kind of scary how humans are now dependent on it. You ride the subway 5-8 years ago only some people were looking at their phones; now about 95%.

  4. Hey Annie! I'm also someone who finds communicating through the use of online communication is way more easier. I hate going out especially to social gatherings and parties, maybe because I'm very introverted. But yes, I think it's very important to go out into the world sometimes and interact. A good balance between the two is needed for sure.
